Semaphore’s Hidden Histories

Semaphore’s Hidden Histories was a City of Port Adelaide Enfield Placemaking Project as part of the SALA (South Australian Living Artists) during August 2018. It was so popular we have created a Semaphore’s Hidden Histories Walking Tour App so you can checked them out at your own pace whenever you wish to.

Artist Rachel Harris sourced images and stories through community workshops to develop the trail along Semaphore Road then she has added a unique twist to each of the 14 great pictures that make up the exhibition along Semaphore Road. Look closely at each photo to see if you can spot something that maybe shouldn`t be there – like Elvis at the Semaphore Carnival or a selfie-stick!

The project combines the wealth of historical images from the Port Adelaide Historical Society, images from City of PAE Libraries’ own Local History Collection and our local’s stories.

Download the free ‘Semaphore SA’ App from Google Play here or iTunes here to access both the Semaphore’s Hidden Histories and Semaphore SA Historical Walking Tour.

If you have any Semaphore photographs or stories to share, please send to service@cityofpae.sa.gov.au/library or #Semaphore on social media.
