Xanadu Semaphore opened on 1st July, 1996 because there were no shops like it in the area and I had always wanted to work close to where I live – the beautiful Semaphore beach! I changed the name to Hippy Chic Semaphore after being in business for 10 years as everyone always referred to my shop as ‘the hippy shop’ and I wanted a change.

I travel overseas regularly to Indonesia and India to source beautifully handcrafted exotic gifts, homewares, clothing and accessories which I import directly from the craftspeople who make them ensuring that the goods are ethically produced and they receive a fair price for their labour.

From beautiful bedspreads, throws, cushion covers, table runners, torans and wall hangings from the artisans of India and Indonesia to sterling silver jewellery with gorgeous gemstones in pendants, earrings and rings, Himalayan Salt lamps, singing bowls, fabric wall hangings, brass bells, tumbled stones, Tibetan prayer flags and much, much more.

Many of the beautiful Indian fabrics I buy feature embroidery, traditional shisha work (mirrors) and Banaras (brocade). I also stock traditional Indonesia Batik.
